Music at Ashland University

Whether you want to study music as a major or minor, or continue your involvement in music by performing in an excellent ensemble, the Ashland University Department of Music offers you many opportunities.

  • We have programs in music education, performance, and academic studies.

  • Ensembles perform concerts on campus and tour regionally each year, with regular tours abroad.

  • Music graduates have found success as teachers, performers, graduate students, and arts administrators.

  • The environment is both challenging and supportive – the right combination for success.

Our Strengths

  • Outstanding, dedicated artist-teachers and scholars who encourage and inspire excellence and emphasize an accent on the individual

  • Small class sizes and individual attention

  • Fine ensembles that are an active part of campus life and include both music majors and non-majors

  • Events outside the classroom: domestic and international tours, visiting guest artist recitals, student field trips to hear performances by internationally renowned musicians, professional conference attendance.

Degree Programs

  • Bachelor of Music degree with a comprehensive major in Music Education

  • Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in Music, with an emphasis in Applied Music

  • Bachelor of Arts degree, with a major in Music, with an emphasis in Academic Studies.
